Travelers can apply online or using the UK ETA app before departure with a valid passport, a digital headshot, travel details and a debit or credit card for payment.
Processing time takes about three days but could be shorter or longer depending on the circumstances. That said, travelers shouldn't wait to apply once they have their itinerary in hand.
Once secured, the ETA will be digitally linked to a traveler's passport and is valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever occurs first. Babies and children also require an ETA, which parents can apply for.
European citizens and visa-exempt travelers will require an ETA to enter or travel through the UK beginning April 2, while British and Irish citizens are excluded from this new requirement.
